As the research progressed - Sketches, historic places, Inspirations By Ahmed Bhutta

After my first stroll to gain some inspiration, I decided to capture some moments of everyday family life. I thought this would be significant to my research, to analyse and capture everyday behaviors. Below I’ve done some drawings from life and captured moments that are everyday behaviors within my family.

So usually, my sisters would be having lunch and then I swing by and intrude. I’m not sure my sister was very happy about that…

I quickly sketched when my sister was pouring ketchup on her chips whilst she was preparing her lunch.

I thought I’d head over to a few places with some more scenery, a historical background and where I could sit and sketch out my surroundings and photograph. I went to Fortismere sixth form, which is based in Muswell Hill, Haringey when I was doing my A-levels. I thought I’d take some photos and sit down to sketch my surroundings, as it was everyday life for me at an important stage in my life.

The sketch above was an observation of members of the public doing their shopping. I was attempting to gain inspiration from different walks and places of life and gain from observing everyday life.

From Muswell Hill, I popped over to Alexandra Palace Gardens where I observed some historical places and photographed and sketched landscapes, scenery and specific objects. When sketching this out, I was thinking of it as a level beginning. I started to gain a wider breadth of what sort of game I wanted to create and I wanted it to include the means of public transport as for the majority of people, that is everyday life and I feel almost everyone can relate to it.

Here are some of the photographs I took:

I found this sculpture really interesting, photographed at Alexandra Park Lake. It’s called “Leo The Lion”, I guess resembling the strength of this historic place and defining Alexandra Palace where this statue has remained for many years. When photographing Leo, I wanted to include it in my research as a historical sculpture but I also though it could relate as a character in a game or ideas could be strung from this sculpture.

The above photographs were taken at Alexandra Park Lake. I wanted to capture other forms of life, so I decided to capture and sketch animals too, branching off the character ideology for Leo The Lion sculpture.

I took some interesting photographs of historic plaques.

Above is a plaque, commemorating Alexandra Palace as the birthplace for “high definition” television and another commemorating the prisoners of war at Alexandra Palace between 1914 and 1919, especially those who died.

Whilst studying these forms of life, I remembered the story of Noah’s Ark and decided to give it a read online after I got home. I wanted to then incorporate animal life forms or animal like characters into my game and include the idea of transport to great something relevant but interested and engaging.

I went around to the other parts of Alexandra Palace to photograph and sketch landscapes and scenes aiming to look for inspiration for game environments, level beginnings and endings. What I found and sketched is shown below.

This sketch is when I was sitting by Alexandra Park Lake. The scenery looked really peaceful and I wanted to include it in my research.

As I decided to focus a bit on transport, I decided to take photos and make sketches of traffic passing through Alexandra Palace. It was rush hour at this time so the traffic was almost standstill.
